IG NH&MP Zafar Abbas Lak Visited the Office of DIG N-5 (North) Zone

Zafar Abbas Lak, Inspector General, National Highways & Motorway Police has visited the office of DIG N-5 (North) zone on 22-06-2012. Where DIG N-5 (North) Zone, Muhammad Saleem Bhatti gave a detailed briefing about the North Zone to IG, NH&MP.

During briefing the DIG spoke about the difference in type of traffic plying on GT Road as compared to motorways, along with the problems of encroachments on GT Road which create obstruction in free flow of traffic. He informed about 861 motorists are being helped each day. Speaking on the occasion, the IG NH&MP Zafar Abbas Lak reiterated all the professional drivers to be the main stake holders, therefore, refresher courses and motivation plan be devised for the professional drivers. He also directed to send professional teams to have liaison with the truck and bus drivers of all adjacent cities on the GT road. He also emphasized that all bus and truck companies be asked to provide proper uniform to their drivers and also fix their timings for driving, so that a better road discipline could be established.

The IGP also formed a committee comprising SSP Saeed Wazir, SSP Asim Gulzar, DSP Naeem Tiwana and DSP Muhammad Iqbal to make a feasibility report to establish state of the art driving schools in major cities. He further directed to first establish three driving schools at Islamabad, Peshawar and Sargodha with all modern gadgets e.g. Driving Simulators.

The IGP instructed for regular liaison with NHA for the maintenance of road and road furniture and to establish mobile workshops on GT road as on motorways. He also directed the officers to take all necessary measures to curb overloading at all costs so that roads could be saved. During his visit of DIG N-5 (North) office he inspected the Mobile Education Unit and different sections of DIG (N-5) North office. In the end, he appreciated the performance of officers.
